  21. This is the README file for the IPS demonstration program. 
  22.  
  23. Read this file completely and follow the instructions for installation and
  24. evaluation of this program. For more information on image processing and
  25. the use of this program, please refer to the help file and included 
  26. tutorial.

  34. Warnings
  35. --------
  36. This program is a SCIENTIFIC image processing program and, as such, does
  37. NOT support color image processing. It is recommended that only 8-bit gray-
  38. scale images be used for processing. Reading in 24-bit color images will
  39. produce an image of only the red, green, or blue hues of that image
  40. (choose in the format option in File/Open). If a 8-bit color image is 
  41. opened, use the View/Palette/Convert to Gray option to change the image to 
  42. gray-scale.

  44. This demonstration program is a beta version. This means that some of the 
  45. bugs have not been ironed out yet. We would appreciate your input if you 
  46. find any unknown bugs. I will include any known bugs in future versions 
  47. of the demo program.
  48. The commercial version will be as bug-free as possible!

  50. Features
  51. --------
  52. The program works with 256 x 256 images of 8 bit depth. Several images may 
  53. be processed simultaneously. Any image file in standard TIFF, GIF, or 
  54. Windows (BMP) format can be used as input. Arbitrary image formats are
  55. also supported including interleave support. After processing, the results 
  56. can also be stored in one of these formats. 
  57. Practically, the whole set of operations enhancing the visual quality of 
  58. images is realized in this program.
  59. * The program can perform a wide variety of contrast enhancement 
  60.   operations: negative, linear and logarithmic normalization, 
  61.   equalization, thresholding, and conversion according to arbitrary 
  62.   brightness conversion table (Look up table).
  63. * Included are a large set of digital filters including: median, average, 
  64.   digital spot filter, filter of overshoots within the window, and 
  65.   thresholds and substitution criteria given by the user.
  66. * Slide window operations are supported by several types of differential 
  67.   filters including: 
  68.   convolution by a 3x3 window, equalization, normalization, smoothing, 
  69.   gradient analysis, and laplacian operations.
  70. * Our comprehensive, object analysis functions include useful functions 
  71.   such as: 
  72.   connect objects, isolines and contour maps, morphology operations, and 
  73.   statistical object analysis (nearest circle, nearest ellipse, 
  74.   complexity factor, etc.)
  75. Other operations include plotting and analyzing the image brightness 
  76. profile along any straight line specified. Statistical analysis includes 
  77. calculation of the histogram and histogram statistics. All operations can 
  78. be carried out optionally for the whole image or over any arbitrary 
  79. rectangular region of interest.

  82. IPS Demonstration Instructions 
  83. ------------------------------

  85. Installation:
  86. 1) Copy the file IPSDEMO.ZIP to a new directory.
  87. 2) Unzip the file.
  88. 3) Read this file completely.
  89. 4) Add a Program Item in the program manager for the program called 
  90.    IPSDEMO.EXE in the above mentioned directory. Make sure to set this
  91.    directory as the Working Directory in the Program Item Properties.

  93. Execution:
  94. 1) Run the demonstration program.
  95. 2) Open an image to process.
  96. 3) Perform the desired processing functions.
  97. 4) This demonstration version doesn't allow printing or saving of the 
  98.    processed images. Some functions are only allowed to be performed a 
  99.    single time (after they have been performed they are excluded from the
  100.    menu). The complete version allows unlimited execution of all functions. 
  101.    This IPS demonstration works on 256x256 images only, and 
  102.  
  103. Evaluation:
  104. 1) After the 30 day trial period, decide if you wish to purchase the 
  105.    complete version of the IPS program. This purchase includes the latest
  106.    version, a user manual, and a discount coupon for your next update.
  107. 2) Print the order form from the help file and send ORLEV your complete 
  108.    address along with your payment. The program will be sent to you within 
  109.    2 days of receipt of payment.
